So, for developing a child’s reading skills, lower case letters are the key. Secondly, give the child time to know the letters and the words. Do not interrupt his flow by correcting his grammar every now and then.

By all the way, remember to be patient and give him time to learn and absorb every new letter or word. With constant practice and time, he will eventually learn how to read fluently.

For the upper level of Spanish classroom, students can nail most of the grammar and vocabulary easily, but not the same for common sayings and expressions used by native Spanish speakers. So, when teaching Spanish expressions, here what you can pull in the class;

Read a passage and have your students to underline any unfamiliar sayings or expressions on the text. The sayings have verb that your students can recognize, even though it may not be translated easily. Choose one to be discussed, write the expression on the board and tell the class what it means. Give example on how and when to use it and ask your class to have a practice on it.

For homework, you can assign your students to type the expression on Google search and ask them to find the expression used by a native speaker on 5 different example sentences. They may not find them easily, so remind them to dig deeper. Tell them to write the sentences down and find the general idea of each sentence on a piece of paper.

The following day, you can check their work first to make sure they do not come with intolerable and absurd examples that they may stumble upon before you write several example sentences on the board. Then talk about the students’ findings. You can ask them to write the expression on the journal entry for that particular day and tell them to add some question that would be a plus point for the lesson.
